Edmonton Oilers Force Game 7 with 5-1 Win

Edmonton on the Brink of History

Oilers Victory Would Break Canada's Stanley Cup Drought

The Edmonton Oilers extended their improbable comeback from a three-game deficit to force a deciding Game 7 in the Stanley Cup Finals with a 5-1 victory over the Florida Panthers on Wednesday night.

A victory for the Oilers would not only end Canada's decades-long Stanley Cup drought but also make Edmonton the second team to win the Stanley Cup after trailing 3-0 in the Finals, the first being the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1942.

"We're not done yet," Oilers captain Connor McDavid said after the game. "We've got one more to go."

The Oilers took an early lead in Game 6 thanks to a goal by Leon Draisaitl just over five minutes into the first period. Edmonton added to its lead in the second period with goals from Evan Bouchard and Zach Hyman.

The Panthers got on the board late in the second period with a goal by Aleksander Barkov, but the Oilers regained their three-goal lead early in the third period with a goal by McDavid.

Draisaitl added an empty-net goal late in the third period to seal the victory for the Oilers.

Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals will be played in Edmonton on Friday night. The Oilers will be looking to win their first Stanley Cup since 1990, while the Panthers will be looking to win their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.

"It's going to be a battle," Oilers coach Jay Woodcroft said. "But we're up for the challenge."
